Deputy Director of House of the Whistleblower Ombuds

Rebecca Jones

Rebecca Jones serves as Deputy Director of the House Office of the Whistleblower Ombuds, an independent, nonpartisan House support office.

Through her role as Deputy Director, Rebecca assists House offices in establishing best practice whistleblower intake systems, provides training to House offices on how to work with whistleblowers safely, guides staff on responding to individual whistleblower matters, and offers legal analyses of relevant whistleblower laws.

Rebecca’s background is in independent, nonpartisan government oversight work, emphasizing whistleblower protections and inspectors' general reform. She earned her J.D. from the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law, and her B.A. from Notre Dame of Maryland University. She is licensed to practice law in the state of Maryland.

Accomplishments

  • Rebecca has testified before Congress about the importance of protecting whistleblowers at the Department of Veterans Affairs and had the privilege of co-authoring Caught Between Conscience and Career, a guidebook to help whistleblowers safely disclose waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government.

  • Rebecca has extensive experience working directly with whistleblowers, particularly in helping individuals understand their legal rights and outlets for making protected disclosures such as how to work with Congressional offices. Throughout her career she has taught individuals and groups about whistleblower protections and the inherent value of one voice speaking out against wrongdoing.

  • Rebecca is licensed to practice law in the state of Maryland. She earned her J.D. from the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law, and earned her B.A. in Political Science from Notre Dame of Maryland University.
