Lucy Bustamante is the daughter of Cuban refugees who migrated to the U.S. in 1969. Born and raised in New Orleans, she received her B.A. in Communications from Loyola University New Orleans.
Lucy, bilingual in English and Spanish, has had the privilege of working in several U.S. cities, including New Orleans, Norfolk, Virginia, Mobile, Alabama and Philadelphia, where she once served as the NBC Philadelphia News Anchor and the breaking news anchor for Telemundo. She has received several awards for her work in broadcast television, including four Emmy awards, an Associated Press award for best anchor in 2015, three regional Edward R. Murrow awards for breaking news, and a Peabody Award for coverage of Hurricane Katrina. Recently, she won the Excellence in Network Investigation at the 2024 National Association of Black Journalists for her reporting on American Vets: Benefits, Race and Inequality.
Lucy was the co-founding President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, along with fellow military spouse/Telemundo News Anchor, Iris Delgado. She sits on the board of Military Veterans in Journalism, and has worked with the Naval Officers Spouses Association and the NBC Universal Veterans network to support military families in Philadelphia and beyond.
