A Licensed Clinical Social Worker & retired Lieutenant Colonel

Ted Blickwedel

He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps. He is a combat and disabled veteran. He conducted individual and group therapy with combat veterans from January 2009 until February 2018 at the Warwick, RI Vet Center for the Readjustment Counseling Service (RCS). Ted has been actively involved in advocating for changes in the VA’s Vet Center Program because of excessive clinical productivity standards that have adversely impacted counselor welfare and degraded their ability to provide quality care to veterans.

From 1979 to 1983, he served on full-time active duty with the Marine Corps as a Logistics Officer before joining the Marine Corps Reserves. Additionally, he performed intermittent extended periods of active duty in diverse assignments under the Active Duty Special Works (ADSW) Program from 1984 to 2006. During this timeframe, he also served in the Persian Gulf War with the 10th Marine Regiment in 1991.

In 2003, he was mobilized out of the Individual Ready Reserves (IRR) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and again in 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).

After retiring from the Marine Corps in 2006, he attended Rhode Island College for two years. He obtained a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work (MSW) in 2008.

Subsequently, he conducted individual and group therapy with combat veterans from January 2009 until February 2018 at the Warwick, RI Vet Center for the Readjustment Counseling Service (RCS), a branch of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Since 2018, Ted has been actively involved in advocating for changes in the VA’s Vet Center Program because of excessive clinical productivity standards that adversely impact counselor welfare and degrade their ability to provide quality care to veterans. He has been accomplishing this through various local and national media interviews conducted and by working closely with Senator Reed and Congressman Cicilline’s staff in RI and Washington, DC.
