James Whittaker

Staff Director of the House Committee on VA’ s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations

James Whittaker

James is the staff director of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. The subcommittee spends a significant amount of time interacting with whistleblowers, including heroic Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) employees, contractors, and veteran patients. The VA is responsible for running the largest integrated health care system in the United States and providing benefits to millions of veterans. James and his team work to ensure quality care and benefits are being provided to veterans and engage daily with whistleblowers to investigate the waste, fraud, and abuse that can prevent the care and benefits veterans deserve.

Prior to joining the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, James was a Captain and Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army, and a private equity, mergers & acquisitions attorney at Goodwin Proctor LLP. While in the Army, James led the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ information law and Freedom of Information Act programs.

James is a proud alumnus of UC Davis and University of Virginia School of Law and enjoys spending time with his family and serving in various leadership positions at the Army Navy Country Club.
