Bonnie J. Palifka is an international anti-corruption scholar specializing in Latin America, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the Tecnologico de Monterrey (Mexico), Visiting Research Fellow at the Center for the Study of Corruption at the University of Sussex, and occasional Lecturer for Yale University and the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Latin American studies from the University of Vermont, and a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Palifka is the founder and organizer of the Academia against Corruption in the Americas conference and network; she has consulted for Transparency International and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). She received the Rómulo Garza award for the second edition of Corruption and Government: Causes, Consequences, and Reform (with Susan Rose-Ackerman) and was named Honorary Professor by Universidad UTE. She is Vice-Chair of the International Academic Advisory Board of IACA and a member of the CPI Expert Advisory Committee. Her current research projects concern Mafiocracy (state capture by organized crime) and measuring progress against corruption.
